Remus walked in the library, giving Madam Prince a friendly smile as he did so. She gazed blankly at him - the closest to a warm welcome anyone would ever get from the woman. Sighing to himself, the young man walked over to a table, dumping his bag on the ground and resting his chin on the table. He really wanted to study, but it was such a nice day... Stupid exams and homework and extra reading on the side.
Kicking the flap that covered the opening to his back, he reached in and pulled out a random book, quite pleased to see that it was on Defence Against the Dark Arts. Placing it on the table he sighed, opening in and staring at the page blankly, a soft, bored look in his hazel eyes - odd for Remus, especially when he was in the library.
Why couldn't something interesting happen to him for once? Remus felt like throwing the book at the window just for laughs.
It was at that moment that Remus realized he was spending too much time with James and Sirius. Not that he minded the company.

No, no, eloquent certainly wasn’t the right word. Perhaps fluent? Expressive? Rita scratched out yet another word of her almost unnaturally neat scrawl and rubbed her forehead with a sigh. This wasn’t coming out at all the way she wanted it to! The flow was completely off, not to mention the tone! It sounded much too critical and not nearly as objective as she was trying to make it.
Rita casually looked up at a flicker of movement out of the corner of her eyes and gave a flip to her gleaming blonde curls. There was Remus Lupin taking his seat at the next table over. She couldn’t help but smile to herself. He was in her year, and in her opinion belonged in Ravenclaw as well. One of the smartest boys she knew and one of the most mature. Not nearly as stupid or pig-headed as the rest of the boys at Hogwarts.
Her large blue eyes followed Remus as he sat down, opened his pack, and pulled out a book. If only she could think of some excuse to talk to him… Something… Anything… She looked down at her papers and couldn’t suppress the rising elation that came with one of her more brilliant ideas. Of course.
She pushed her chair in behind her as she made her way towards Remus, who sat so very unsuspectingly alone. “Good morning!” She said brightly, clutching her papers in one hand and her quill in the other. “Are you busy? Would you mind…er…” Rita pulled out the chair next to Remus and sat down. “Giving me an interview?”
She bit her lip and coyly tucked a curl behind her ear. “About your friend, James Potter?” Rita looked over at him hopefully. It was a perfectly reasonable explanation. Who wouldn't want an interview about the Quidditch star?

Remus looked up from his book as Rita walked over. She was one of those students that he had always felt was a little too much for him to handle alone, but there was nothing he could do now. It wasn't that she was bad company, it was just that she was very unique and he didn't know how to handle her at times. Plus, she was very pretty - and pretty girls tended not to talk to Remus.
"Good morning, Rita," Remus said softly as she sat down, closing his book with a quiet 'thump'. "An interview? I don't know, really.." The young boy sat back, an odd look on his face, slightly pondering to himself. James was a very outgoing person, but to have an interview about him without talking to his friend first? It was not allowed - James would never do it to him, and Remus knew that James would rather people talked to him about himself.
"Surely it'd be better if you talk to James about James?" Remus asked with a sly smile. "I mean, the interview is about him, and no one knows him better than himself... I don't see how I can be of much help. Anyway, James is a rather private person, I don't think he would like it if I talked about him behind his back," All this was a rush of speech, a small blush on Remus' cheek. Pretty girls made him anxious and think to hard about what he was saying.

Rita gripped her pink covered notebook in her lap and kept her large, shining blue eyes on Remus, wondering where her plan would carry her from here. Alright, so he wasn’t exactly welcome or comfortable with the idea of giving her an interview about James Potter, that was fine. She wasn’t exactly interested in what he had to say about his friend. Tugging lightly at the buttons of her thin pink sweater, Rita smiled sweetly.
“Well, the problem with talking to James is that I wouldn’t really get an objective opinion. However, you’re his best friend and a rather credible source of information… I don’t really think he’d mind if you gave me a few…er… comments.” She slid the chair forward slightly so that the gab between her chair and Remus’s was barely an inch apart. Leaning her elbow on the table and gently cupping her chin in her hand, she opened her notebook and poised her quill against the margin of the first line.
“Plus, the whole school knows how James thinks of himself,” Rita rolled her eyes. “A friend’s word? For the readers?” She gave him her most innocently adorable look, shrugging her shoulders and carefully avoiding his gaze.

"I... suppose I could tell you some things. Nothing too personal, though, Rita. It's not my place to talk about things that James might not be comfortable. I am his best friend, not him," Smiling softly at her, Remus lifted his bag from the floor, placing the book swiftly back into the fabric walls before letting it slide from his fingers again. Sitting back on his chair, he looked over at the Ravenclaw, pondering.
Her blond hair hung around her shoulder's beautifully, her bright blue eyes desperate for something he couldn't name. The pink sweater she was wearing was so her it made a small smile curl over his lips and his eyes sparkle a little. He lent forward on the desk, his head resting on his elbows and smiled at her softly.
"What would you like to know about, Rita?" Remus asked, his heard beating rapidly. He loved the sound of her voice - it was so smooth and clear, it was like sand running over his skin. Plus she had brains and was very, very pretty. Inwardly, Remus told himself off for thinking such stupid things. Who would want a guy like him anyway?

“Alright, well,” Rita said, practically beaming. She hadn’t quite expected getting Remus to open up would be this easy. Normally she never went into an interview without any previously planned questions to ask, or a general focus of her next piece. She bit her lip again, supposing she’d just have to wing it… her heart began beating quicker, though she willed her voice to stay calm when she spoke.
“First off I just have to verify my source. Remus Lupin, L-u-p-i-n, fifth year, Gryffindor, soon to be sixteen?” As her smooth, crystalline voice washed over them, Rita’s hand moved quickly across the paper. Her words were so delicately formed; her letters perfectly proportioned and positioned between the lines on the page. “Brown hair, warm eyes to match, gentle voice…” she continued writing.
Now for a question. Rita looked around, quickly racking her brain for a question. Come on, come on. But just looking at Remus caused her brain to er… melt a little. It was the oddest sensation. “Boxers or briefs?” She asked, wondering why the bloody hell the words ever made their way out of her mouth. Rita blushed and let out a rather girly laugh.

Remus blushed instantly, a dark flash appearing in his eyes. He was sure he had said he wouldn't mention anything person, and anyway, it was James! Remus did not look at James in any state of undress, so how would he know? The thought made him cringe slightly and he frowned a little.
"I wouldn't know, dear Rita. I do not look at James when he is almost naked. Perhaps you should ask one of his fan girls that, I am sure they'd know better than me, hmm?" Giving her a swift smile, Remus wondered whether he had given in a little too easily. It wasn't hard, especially when he was captured in her beautiful eyes...
One look at her sent him to dreamland! Remus had never, ever been like this around any girl before, and he didn't really understand what was going on. It seemed that he would have to have a talk with James and Sirius to see if they could help him - they were the charmers, not him. He had no idea what to do when it came to women.
He bet Rita knew that pretty well.

“Oh, I wasn’t talking about James,” Rita replied coolly, trying to recover from her little ‘slip up’. She could easily make it look intentional, especially by the look on his face. He seemed confused, unsure of what to do, and just that look made her smile. She had been with many guys before, each and every one exactly the same; big headed, loud, and obnoxious. In fact, Rita was quite convinced that men didn’t mature until they were thirty five years old… but Remus was different. He was quiet and reserved, but he was so smart! She could tell from their conversation already that he was a good friend, he would have protected James’s secrets probably with his life.
“The question was directed towards you, Remus,” Rita said happily. She kept her eyes on him, forget-me-not blue, and crossed one leg over another so that a great deal of her leg was showing from her ankles up to her short skirt. Not that it was on purpose, of course. "So... is that 'boxers', then?"

Remus' eyes were drawn to her legs almost instantly, and he blushes vividly, his heart pounding in his chest. Shaking his head slightly, he scolded himself. How rude was he! Staring at a young woman's legs was completely ungentlemanly, and therefore unlike him in so many ways. He just couldn't help himself and he smiled, though when he remembered her question it fell slightly.
"That's a rather personal question," Remus said with a slight, nervous stutter in his voice. "Um.. Aren't we losing the subjectiveness of this interview? The object of our discussion is James Potter and we seem to be drifting away from it." He smiled at her slightly, his heart a rabid drum in his chest.
"But if you must know," Remus said in an almost whisper. "I wear boxers. Don't tell anyone."

Rita bit her lip and fought the smile struggling against the straight face. She lifted her quill again and scratched her ankle gently, knowing Remus’s eyes would naturally follow her hand there. This was too fun. “Really? Fascinating…” He had actually answered her. He had actually told her. Now the image was in her head, and it made her mouth go dry and her pace quicken. No, no, she had to stop thinking about that. Look, fully clothed, right in front of her. “I’m quite a boxer girl, myself,” Rita mused, twirling a thick strand of already curled locks around her finger.
She cleared her throat. “So, how long exactly have you known James Potter?” Rita asked, jotting down ‘time known’ on the paper and awaiting his response, knowing it certainly wouldn’t be as interesting as the mental image of Remus in just his boxers.

Rita was right - Remus' eyes followed her hand instinctively until he got a hold of himself, mentally berating himself for yet again being a stupid, rude young man - rather like Sirius, actually. Raising his hand, he ran it through his hair, thinking about how he should approach her. He wasn't at all good in these situations, and he was making a fool out of himself. It was bad enough him blushing like a little schoolgirl at her boxers comment!
"Well.." Remus attempted to answer her question. "At first it was always Sirius and him - they met on the train, see - but I think at one point I helped them with homework and we became friends. That was in first year, so I would say almost five years.." His eyes were drawn to hers again, and he almost lost himself.
'Get control of yourself, Moony!' His mind screamed at him.

“Five years?” Rita replied, using one of the techniques that were supposed to show she was attentively listening when in reality she was lost in his captivating eyes. It took a few moments for her brain to communicate to her hand to write down ‘five years, close with Sirius, met on train’ without even looking down. “That’s quite a long time!” She mused. Direction. Come on, direction.
After a few moments of tense silence, Rita spoke again with another question that seemed to pop into her head. “Rumor is Potter has quite the feelings for Lily Evans… is their secret, scandalous relationship fact or fiction?” The writer inside her was beginning to creep out; the girl who would do anything for a story. Can anyone say two birds with one stone? This could very well be the best selling edition of the Hogwarts Times yet.
“And if fact, would their relationship cause a riff in your friendship of five years? Would Potter rather spend his time with Gryffindor’s Golden Girl?”

Remus was as lost in her eyes as she was in his. It was like there was a connection between them that he'd never noticed, that had snuck up on him and taken hold of him, bearing his heart to her smiling life. It was like everything she did was perfect for him, even her movements and voice, echoing inside his head, drew him to her.
"I can't tell you that, because I don't know for sure," Remus said, half-lying. "It's the kind of thing you have to ask James yourself. We don't butt into each other's love lives much, seeing as we are guys and stuff." Apart from Sirius, he's always on about his 'love' life.
"Even if he did like her, I don't think that she would come between us," Remus said softly. "We are like brothers, and nothing will stop our friendship, Rita. We care about each other too much to let a girl break us up," He laughed to himself lightly, shaking his head as old memories, petty fights and silly girls, came to mind.

Rita nodded empathetically and wrote down almost every word he said in her notebook. So he and James really were close, practically like brothers. That was good; it showed he had a good sense of commitment, someone a girl could be with for a long period of time. She imagined herself holding his hand as he kissed her on the cheek, and her mind seemed to be all fogged up, like she had walked straight into a cloud. Rita shook her head a little and gave a rather apologetic smile.
“And do you both find it hard to have a love life with all the time you spend hanging out with one another? It’s no secret you’re practically professional pranksters…” She giggled and scribbled ‘alliteration’ next to ‘practically professional pranksters’, looking up at Remus with a satisfied expression.

Remus laughed to himself a little, a small smile creeping onto his face. Love life? Not likely. His love life was non-existant, had never even been born. It was a shame really, but Remus got over it. He had his reasons for keeping his distance, and he knew that Sirius and James understood.
"I have no love life I'm afraid, so there's nothing really for me to balance," Remus replied softly. "Between studying and watching over James and Sirius like a mother hen, I haven't really found the time to indulge myself so," He grinned. "Plus, there are things about me that aren't attractive to most women, and I am used to liking a girl and watching her fall in love with another man. That's why I am very secretive about things to do with my personal life. It makes me mysterious," The young Gryffindor smiled.
He would imagine himself with Rita. He could imagine them talking intelligently about things, sitting in silence as they read, and sharing a soft, romantic kiss. It was things like this that often got him into trouble, which was why Remus generally tried to clamp down on his imagination. But Rita was so beautiful he couldn't help himself.
