It was a chilly Autumn morning and the ground outside lay sprinkled with rain droplets that had been left there from the night before. A young woman sat still and silent, looking out of the window of the Three Broomsticks pub, her back to the door. Her name was Narcissa Black and today she had her long blonde hair out of its usual rough ponytail and flowing down her back, something that she hadn't done in a while. Cissy stared out the window as long as she dared, watching the passers by and looking at some of the people who littered the streets, it seemed to be shopping day as well as the Hogsmeade visit. Cissy had, for the first time, had a break from school by sitting in Hogsmeade but that meant that she longed more so to see her older sister, Bellatrix, something she had not done for a while since she had began her seventh year at school.
Before she had realised it Cissy was tracing the mouth of the bottle with her index finger, not really seeing the people who were outside on the streets, she was not thinking about anything in particular but that did not mean that she had to be alert and snooping in the business of those people around her, though sometimes snooping was rather amusing for her. She gave a soft sigh and leant her chin on her hand, pushing her butterbeer away. There was a soft tinkling at the door but she did not look around, no-one knew she was here, or so she thought, she should be doing something more constructive on her day off but that would be quite boring.
Picking up her butterbeer again and taking a sip Cissy moved her feet onto the chair in front of her now watching a couple of elderly wizards playing cards in the corner, something that she had not seen in this pub since she came here with her parents many years ago. She heard a familiar voice speaking to Madame Rosmerta but over all the noise in the pub she could not place it, or even hear it properly. After a few moments the voice seemed closer to her and the had the sense that someone was standing behind her. Her whole body stiffened as she listened closely.

“Yeah, yeah, it’s true,” Rita said happily to Hestia Jones, as they both walked into the Three Broomsticks. She began peeling her gloves off of her hands and stuck them in her pocket, all with a huge grin on her face. Hestia had a look of mingled shock and awe while looking at Rita, who simply shrugged in an almost arrogant manner. “We were just… sitting in the library,” she sighed dreamily as she recalled, a few days ago, being in the chair across from Remus Lupin.
“And what did he say?” Hestia asked eagerly as the two made their way further into the warm barroom.
“Well he said he thought he was a loser and he didn’t want to mess things up because he isn’t as experienced,” Rita replied patiently, taking a moment to order a butterbeer from the practically famous Madam Rosmerta. “But I basically told him that was ridiculous so we’ll be together this weekend!” They both let out an excited squeal, before Hestia shook her head.
“I’m happy for you Ri,” she said. “Ah, look, there’s Sirius! I’m going to go chat…” with a wink, Hestia flounced off in Sirius’s direction, where a whole cluster of girls were gathered. Rita smiled smugly. Who needed Sirius Black when she was perfectly happy with her own wonderful lovely boyfriend? She let out another happy sigh and realized she was standing directly behind a familiar girl…
“Oh! Hello!” Rita said, turning to Narcissa. The girl was in 7th year, so they had never really spoken, but Rita was aware of exactly who she was. “Having a good time?”

((sorry bout the late reply Rita, my net died on me last night, sorry its so short I'm kinda tired))
Narcissa suddenly realised whose voice it was, Rita Skeeter one of those Ravenclaw's who thought they were so much smarter than the rest. Yes, it was true, Narcissa still held the prejudices of her parents and her house in high regard and it was, for that reason, that she would not willingly strike up a conversation with an... undesirable. She knew, however, that Skeeter was a halfblood which did give her a slight advantage after all, it was common knowledge that some of the students in Slytherin were halfbloods, at least they had some decent blood in them. Cissy thought for a moment, completely avoiding asking Rita to take a seat, she had heard the name of someone she did not want to be associated with Sirius.
Narcissa turned slightly, her face emotionless and indifferent and she stared Rita in the eyes "what do you want Skeeter, sure you wouldn't prefer to linger over there with your little friend, sure she could find a place for you in her worshipping circle" Narcissa had never liked Rita, at least not since she found out that Rita had been seen around school with one of her idiot cousin's friends, though she did not find out who, people just whispered in her ear so she knew who to hate for associating with Sirius. Her eyebrow was raised and she looked at the girl curiously, curious to know what her answer would be.

Rita looked taken aback at first, but then remembered who she was dealing with. Of course, what else would she expect from Narcissa Black? “I have no reason to ‘linger over there’,” she replied coolly with a glance to where Hestia had run off too. No doubt Narcissa’s reproachful tone came from the appearance of her cousin, Sirius. It was no secret around Hogwarts that they hated each other; the Gryffindor vs. Slytherin rivalry did absolutely nothing to help matters.
“Unlike most of the girls in our school I have no interest in Sirius Black,” Rita shrugged rather indifferently, trying not to sound as frightened as she really was. Narcissa was quite intimidating… “I find him quite obnoxious and far too arrogant to befit him. If my friend would rather ogle over him like the rest of his admirers then, well, fine.” She sighed and let out a little ‘hmph’. “But it’s fine with me if you’d rather sit here alone.”
((Me too! I was away all weekend, and I finally got time to post!))

A small chuckle came from Narcissa's lips as she sipped her drink and sat the bottle back on the table again. There was always some reason for idiots like Skeeter to linger around that no-good cousin of hers but she did not challenge the statement, rather she waited to see what defense she would put up, it was interesting to see what new excuses came about while people were talking to her, the fact that all the girls hung around Sirius was not something she liked, she hated the way that he threw away his blood traitor ways made her sick not to mention Bellatrix. It was only a matter of time before he convinced someone else to be the same way he was and, unfortunately, it seemed it was Andromeda he was trying to convert.
"Our School? You shouldn't even be allowed to walk the halls, just because you have some wizarding blood doesn't make you a true wizard" Narcissa hissed lightly, she could sense a little fear in Rita's words but, again, made no attempt to use that against her, at least not yet. Again another laugh escaped her lips where a smirk was now forming "I'm suprised, you definately give up a good defense, I know you don't find him obnoxious, if you did you wouldn't be dating his little friend Lupin now would you?" Anything that was kept secret at Hogwarts, naturally, got around the whole school and most things about Sirius and his friends travelled to the ears of Narcissa within a few days. She gave a satisfied smirk as she took another sip of her butterbeer, she was rather enjoying this afternoon "why don't you sit" she said, her tone unwelcoming.

Rita looked, for a moment, as though she might burst into tears. Her large blue eyes grew even wider and she bit her lip. Alright, so what if she wasn’t a pureblood? She was in Ravenclaw, two years younger than Narcissa, and still probably more talented with magic. Blood status had absolutely nothing to do with it. She held her tongue, however, and glanced around the room. Sure enough, she saw Hestia, along with many other girls she recognized, gathering around none other than Narcissa’s famous cousin. He was downing shots of what appeared to be firewhiskey amidst a crowd of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahhhs’. Rita turned again and pulled out a chair, sitting down almost defiantly.
“In fact, I do find him obnoxious. Remus is nothing like him, you know. He’s kind and sweet and caring and smart,” she defended, almost glowing with a hint of pride. Yes, Remus Lupin, her boyfriend. “Just because I’m dating him doesn’t mean I’m dating Sirius,” Rita rolled her eyes and tried to sound braver than she felt. Why was Narcissa so intimidating? Thankfully, a waitress hurried over and set a butterbeer down in front of Rita, who took the hot drink and sipped it while trying not to look at the girl sitting across from her.

Narcissa gave an involuntary cough at Rita's words that came across as mocking or disbelief. Remus is nothing like him... the rest of the words went in one ear and straight out the other, there was no way that Cissy would hear those words being used by anyone else and especially not the friend of her useless, no good cousin. "Acutally Skeeter, thats exactly what it means, the pair are like two peas in their own little pod" her tone seemed to challenge Rita to argue the point, Narcissa was loving this, it was the first time in a while that she had, had a decent argument or, in the true essence of this case, since she had picked on someone to the point of actually trying to make them cry.
Many people would say that Cissy was nasty, cruel and evil and perhaps it was true, but she believed in nothing more than purifying the wizarding race and if that meant starting out this way then so be it. She could sense a little fear in the atmosphere but she said nothing on it, a small smirk was plastered on her face as she sat there, watching Rita, who seemed to be a little too hung up on Remus for Cissy's liking. "Why don't you try finding someone whose not completely useless, at least then you would be able to cover up your faults" she said, her expression and tone showing that while she was mocking the girl she was completely serious.
